Wine is one of the finer things in life with the expression of winemaker’s passion and emotions in a form of art. Bulgarian wine is nothing short of remarkable. It has a really long history in winemaking it could be traced back to the Thracians about 6 000 years ago. There are a lot of interesting grape varieties like the Mavrud, Melnik but actually, I am fond of the Merlot grape from the middle part of Bulgaria.

The soil is quite similar to the Saint Emilion in Bordeaux. In fact, the first time I ever tried a Bulgarian wine was in Bordeaux during the En Primeur campaign! A chateaux owner* actually introduced me to his Bulgarian wine, which sat alongside these big names, famous local Classés and this Bulgarian wine shines! It’s brilliant and I can’t wait to bring it to Hong Kong.

But imagine, like ten years ago, there weren’t so many people importing Bulgarian wine in Hong Kong. So, it actually took me a few nights to think about it. I tasted again and again, back and forth, the quality just convinced me.

So, I am glad I did bring it to Hong Kong because now it became one of my best-selling wines in my wine shop every year!
